Antique Rose Cut Diamond Rose Gold Foil Back Cluster Ring

I would love to hold this piece for myself, but alas I must let her go. This dazzling antique ring was likely a conversion piece from a stickpin. 

Foil backed rose cut diamonds were popular in the 16th to 18th centuries. They were cut with a flat bottom and a faceted dome, and a foil backing was added to enhance their brilliance. The foil would reflect light back through the diamond, creating a brighter and more dazzling appearance. However, with advancements in diamond cutting and the discovery of new diamond deposits, the foil backing fell out of favor and is no longer commonly used today. While antique foil backed diamonds remain valuable and sought after by collectors, they are delicate. They cannot be worn during water activities (including washing hands) as the water can damage the foil backing on this ring. Currently a size 6.5, this ring can be sized up or down several sizes!
